The Texas High School Football Hall of Fame announced their 2017 induction class Wednesday, commemorating the excellence of nine members for their noteworthiness on the gridiron in the Lone Star State. Selections include Lovie Smith (Big Sandy), Reggie McNeal (Lufkin), Dat Nguyen (Rockport), Tommy Joe Crutcher (McKinney), Johnny Walker (Holmes), coaches Steve Lineweaver (Euless Trinity) and Eddy Peach (Arlington Lamar), and Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Greene (Temple Dunbar). Former athletic director Frank Arnold (Converse Judson) will be acknowledged as the Dave Campbell Special Contributor to the Game.
The 2017 class will be inducted during a banquet on May 6 at Baylor University’s Ferrell Center. The celebration will also award high schools, students, and coaches for individual achievements. The Hall is currently located in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame museum in Waco, and houses more than 300 Texas legends — a true representation of the Texas athletic spirit and determination.
Great athletes to be inducted. I John Walker (Johnny Sky Walker) was a two time all-american track athlete winning district in the High jump, shot put,100 meters, 4×100 relay and anchoring the mile relay, (1979-80) anchoring Killeen High 4×100 meter relay in 40.04 in Texas State while also winning the High Jump and anchoring the mile relay to second place. Also a Blue Chip running back signing with The University of Texas at Austin. 4 Year starter known for my high flying dives over the tops of defenses. Drafted to the St Louis Cardinals in the 1984 draft along with 3 other Longhorns ( Rick Mickiver, Jeff Lieding, Doug Dawson.
