From a backup stepping up when his number was called to a birthday boy putting on a performance to remember, former Texas high school stars were in the headlines in week four in college football.
Here are ten of those standout performance from across the country.
Texas Tech QB Will Hammond (Hutto)
When Texas Tech starting quarterback Behren Morton left Saturday’s game against Utah in the third quarter due to injury, all eyes turned to Will Hammond. He’d played in each of Texas Tech’s first three games this season but only in garbage time.
The former Hutto Hippo was ready. Hammond threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns, including a 27-yard strike to tight end Terrance Carter (Harker Heights) which put Tech up 20-10 in the fourth quarter. Utah never threatened from there.
Hammond also proved he could get it done with his legs, adding 61 yards on eight carries. His performance will give the Texas Tech staff confidence if Morton is forced to miss any time. The Red Raiders do have a bye week to try and get everyone healthy before heading to Houston on October 4.
TCU QB Josh Hoover (Rockwall-Heath) and WR Eric McAlister (Azle)
The final Battle of the Iron Skillet belonged to the Horned Frogs. TCU saw off rival SMU 35-24 on Saturday in the last scheduled game between the two schools for now.
Rockwall-Heath’s Josh Hoover and Azle’s Eric McAlister were a dynamic duo for the Horned Frogs. McAlister caught eight passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns, including a 70-yard catch-and run score in the fourth quarter that put the Frogs up for good. According to TCU’s athletic communications department, his 254 yards were the second-most by a receiver in TCU history.
The man getting him the ball had quite the afternoon too. Hoover racked up 379 yards and five touchdowns through the air. The 379 yards were just the fifth-most in a game for Hoover, but his five touchdowns were a career high.
TCU returned to the AP Top 25 after the win, but it’ll be tested immediately. The Frogs will head to the desert to square off with Arizona State this Friday night.
Virginia QB Chandler Morris (Highland Park)
Highland Park grad Chandler Morris led Virginia to a 48-20 torching of Stanford on Saturday. It was a standout performance for a player that has bounced around the college ranks. Morris began his career at Oklahoma, transferred to TCU where he played for three years years, and started at North Texas last season.
Now, he’s got a home in Charlottesville. He completed 23 of his 31 passes for 380 yards and four touchdowns on Saturday evening. He also added a rushing touchdown. Those five total touchdowns were tied for his career high.
We’ll find out a lot more about Morris and Virginia next week. They’ll have their highest profile test yet when they host Florida State under the Friday night lights.
Prairie View A&M RB Chase Bingmon (Terrell)
Northwestern State could not figure out how to stop Terrell grad Chase Bingmon on Saturday. The Prairie View A&M redshirt freshman carried the ball 18 times for 180 yards, a remarkable 10 yards per carry. He didn’t get into the end zone, but the Panthers still pulled out the 27-24 victory over Northwestern State.
This was just Bingmon’s seventh game at the collegiate level. It was the first time he’s eclipsed the century mark on the ground.
His Panthers are now 2-2 on the season. They’ll get back to SWAC play this Saturday with a home date against Grambling State.
NC Central RB Chris Mosley (Burleson Centennial)
North Carolina Central lit up North Carolina A&T 62-20 on Saturday. According to NCCU athletic communications, the Eagles’ 767 total yards of offense were the most in a single game in school history.
Burleson Centennial grad Chris Mosley was a big part of that output. His first touch of the day was a 53-yard rushing touchdown, setting the tone for the rest of the game.
He carried the ball just 11 times but still managed to rack up 168 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also had four receptions for 90 yards and two more touchdowns. It was both a career high in total yardage and touchdowns in a single game for Mosley.
North Carolina Central is now 3-2 on the season. The Eagles will have one last non-conference contest this weekend with a trip to East Texas A&M before returning to MEAC play to close out the regular season.
Notre Dame RB Jadarian Price (Denison)
Jadarian Price has often been the second fiddle to Jeremiyah Love in the Notre Dame backfield. But when the former Denison Yellow Jacket gets his number called, he takes advantage of the opportunity.
In Notre Dame’s 56-30 win over Purdue, Prince had just nine rushing attempts, but he converted those into 74 yards and an impressive three touchdowns. He also had a 100-yard kickoff return for touchdown late in the second quarter to put the Fighting Irish up 35-16.
That was the second career kick return touchdown for Price, and it was also a career high for touchdowns for him in a single game as well.
The win was Notre Dame’s first of the year (1-2). The Fighting Irish will now look to get back to .500 this weekend when they travel to Arkansas at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Syracuse WR Johntay Cook (DeSoto)
Clemson’s freefall continued with a 34-21 loss to Syracuse this weekend. The Tiger secondary will be glad they don’t have to see Orange receiver Johntay Cook again this year.
Cook caught six passes for 113 yards, both career highs. He also had an 18-yard carry too.
The former DeSoto Eagle has had an up-and-down start to his college career. He played the past two years at Texas before transferring to Washington. He never played for the Huskies, and ended up moving to Syracuse this spring.
That decision looks to be paying off with Syracuse now 3-1 after Saturday’s big win. Next up, the Orange will host Duke in their second ACC contest.
Tarleton State WR Peyton Kramer (All Saints Episcopal)
Former All Saints Episcopal receiver Peyton Kramer was a walking highlight reel for Tarleton State on Saturday as the Texans beat Chattanooga 52-24.
Kramer had touchdown catches of 68, 39, and 38 yards for the Texans as he finished with seven receptions for 190 yards.
Before this season, Kramer had just one collegiate reception. Saturday was both the first time he’d found the end zone collegiately and the first time he eclipsed 100 yards receiving in a game.

Tarleton State is now an impressive 5-0 in 2025. Next up, the Texans will get a week of rest before hosting Southern Utah on October 4.
Louisiana Tech TE Eli Finley (Rockwall-Heath)
Eli Finley is the second former Rockwall-Heath Hawk to make this week’s list. The Louisiana Tech tight end led the Bulldogs in receiving on Saturday with six catches for 155 yards. That effort helped propel the Bulldogs past Southern Miss 30-20 to get to 3-1 on the season.
Finely got going from the very beginning. He took Louisiana Tech’s very first offensive play 73 yards all the way down to the one yard line. The Bulldogs would score on the next play.
A wiiiiide-open @Eli_finley1 sets up the first score of the night for the Bulldogs!
Not only was it the first 100-yard game for Finley, it was the first time a Bulldog tight end had passed triple-digit receiving yards since 2009, according to Louisiana Tech Athletic Communications.
Next up, the Bulldogs head west to face UTEP this Saturday evening.
