We do a blend of who we think are the best teams, combined with their performance on the field. We also look at who teams played and point differential. For these reasons, you’ll see us favor a team like the Atascocita Eagles higher in our rankings than most because of their win over #10 Katy.
The top three stand out, and they can be argued in any order. We are high on DeSoto. They improved tremendously throughout last season, winning the 6A D2 Title, and they bring back several key players and have continued their improvement. Duncanville, the defending 6A D1 state champs, have to still be number one. They’ve looked great, and they were the best team in the state last year. And, North Shore is every bit as good as Duncanville and DeSoto. After #3, 4 through 10 is fairly even. Westlake is deep and can hang with anyone. Southlake Carroll is solid and explosive on offense. Vandegrift, the 6A D2 runner-ups last year, have flown a bit under the radar somehow, but they are stacked, we love what we see from them in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and they are establishing themselves as a perennial top 10 team. There are two teams with one loss, Denton Guyer and Katy, that we wouldn’t be surprised to see climb into the top 5 by the end of the year.
