Two weeks ago, we at TexasHSFootball took a look at some of the top running backs coming back for the 2017 season. We’ve also looked at the top quarterbacks coming back. Next up are the wide receivers. There are definitely a lot of very talented pass catchers across the state but here’s just a few that we’re looking at in 2017. Note: The players listed here are not in any particular order.
Erik Ezukanma- Keller Timber Creek
He’s a dynamic player out that reminds everyone who watches him of Odell Beckham Jr, even down to the hairstyles. The senior is bound to make more waves after bursting onto the scene his junior year.
Brennan Eagles-Alief Taylor
His 6’3 frame allows him to threaten deep very well. He’s a big playmaker on a very talented Alief Taylor team. His production from his junior year (55 catches, 1,069 yards, 13 touchdowns) is bound to go up.
Jalen Preston-Manvel
Preston is one of the biggest stars on a star studded Manvel squad. Despite not making it to the title game as many predicted, the Mavericks had a fantastic season, and they might challenge for the title again. He also adds an extra dimension as a return man.
Al’vonte Woodard-Houston Lamar
He’s a huge touchdown target for Houston Lamar. He only caught the ball 35 times in 2016, but 14 of those went for touchdowns. Woodard is the definition of a game-breaking receiver.
Joshua Fleeks-Cedar Hill
Fleeks is the next man in line at the talent factory known as Cedar Hill. He’s had to play around dominating receivers in the past, but 2017 will be his time to shine. Expect big numbers out of this Longhorn.
Drue Jackson-Sachse
Jackson returns to a Sachse squad that will have a lot of collegiate talent, and with Jalen Mayden throwing him passes, he might have a huge year statistically. Jackson is yet another big frame guy who can go up and get the ball
Ke’von Ahmad- Colleyville Heritage
This Colleyville Heritage stud had to battle some injuries in 2016, but was an All-State guy as a sophomore. Without injuries hampering him, Ahmad has the potential to completely break open games. With injuries, he’s still able to put up 33 catches, 669 yards, and 9 touchdowns in a season.
Gabriel Douglas-Denton Ryan
Denton Ryan is going to return a slew of stars in 2017, and one of their best will be Douglas. With Spencer Sanders back slinging the rock for another year, Douglas will likely put up huge numbers again.
Jaylen Waddle-Bellaire Episcopal
Waddle can do it all, but he’s especially lethal over the middle, where he can put his speed and escapability to use. He’s extremely slippery in the open field, which should equal big scores for Bellaire Episcopal.
Theo Wease Jr.-Allen
Wease will return for his junior year after tearing up the DFW area as a sophomore. Allen didn’t get the state championship that they’ve been known for, but with talents like Wease, it’s only a matter of time.
