As we get further into the season, the district matchups begin heating up around the state. Nowhere is that more serious this week than in District 6-6A, as this week features a one-loss Denton Guyer squad going up against an undefeated Allen team.

When we say dominant, we certainly mean it when talking about Allen. No team has ended up within one touchdown of them, and they’ve played some solid teams like Hoover (AL), Plano, and Coppell, defeating each one of them soundly. This is still post-Kyler Murray Allen, a team that isn’t as dominant as they have been in the past, but make no mistake, this is still one of the premiere teams in the DFW area and a heavy favorite to make it out of Region I unscathed in the playoffs. They’ve been solid on defense, excellent on offense, and are simply a well-rounded team.

Quarterback Mitchell Jonke has been more than a solid contributor for the Eagles, and Allen’s running-back-by-committee features several very talented backs. The stingy Allen defense will have to deal with a powerful Guyer rushing attack that’s only really been stopped by DeSoto. Noah Cain is a star, and the Wildcats are still potent on offense even after the transfer of Shawn Robinson to DeSoto.

As mentioned before, they’ve only taken a loss to DeSoto this year. Every single other team simply hasn’t had the skill to stay on the field with the Wildcats for long enough. Their defense is solid, their offense can grind out first downs, and they’re looking to upend one of the consensus best teams in the state over the past five or six years.

This one is going to be a bruising matchup. We can’t wait, and we’ll see you there.

I’m sure this will an amazing game, but what about a clash/rematch/district rivalry between No. 2 and last year’s state champions La Vega (6-0, 1-0) and No. 4 China Spring in 4A (6-0, 1-0) that could well decide the district championship.

That was definitely an option, but we had already had China Spring in a GOTW, so we decided to go with the Guyer v Allen matchup. We will for sure have our eyes on the La Vega v China Spring game though!
