Three weeks are in the books of the 2017 Texas high school football season and we’ve had some exciting matchups so far, including last week’s thriller between The Woodlands and Katy.
This week, TexasHSFootball is heading to The Puncher Dome for a primetime showdown in Class 2A between the Iraan Braves and the Mason Punchers as the Game of The Week. Both teams enter the season at 3-0 and will be looking to add their fourth win of the year in one of the most iconic venues in the state.
Iraan entered the season fresh off of a state title appearance in Class 2A Division II and have continued on another hot start this season. Head coach Mark Kirchoff will rely on Kyle O’Bannon as a playmaker at receiver, running back and linebacker. The Braves also enter this road test averaging more than 45 points a game on offense.
On the opposite sideline, Mason has also emerged as one of the strongest teams in Class 2A. Like the Braves, their offense has been strong, averaging more than 42 points per game. The Puncher defense has been a real standout, giving up just 13 points in the first three games of 2017. Head coach Kade Burns leads a strong team coming off an appearance in the regional finals last year. Look for quarterback Otto Wofford and running back/linebacker Klay Kearner to be the big playmakers in this matchup.
Last year’s matchup was a 24-21 classic with Iraan coming out on top? Can the Punchers get revenge at home on Friday night? We’ll find out then.
