THE WOODLANDS- After a close 21-14 loss to Katy on Saturday, The Woodlands Highlanders have their first home game of the season against the George Ranch Longhorns on Friday, September 22nd.
The Woodlands took a hard-fought loss last week but looked dangerous. This is Quinn Blinney’s first season as the starter, and he looked solid against a tough Katy defense. Texas Tech Wide Receiver commit Kesean Carter has liven up to the hype and should have an electric game.
Defensively, Stanford commit Ethan Bonner, who tore his ACL in the offseason, is a huge loss for a team looking to contend for another state championship. So far this season the Highlanders have been stout on defense, but they’ll have their hands full with the Longhorns’ rushing attack.
George Ranch returns eight starters from last season including Jay’Ren Miller who’s a top running back in the state and is coming off a great game against Mexico’s Universidad Nuevo De Leon. Quarterback play is solid, as Christian Jackson is coming off a 200+ yards and three touchdown performance.
George Ranch is a solid team that may be a trap game for The Woodlands. The Longhorns are a fast-rising team who started as a 4A team, won a 5A championship in 2015 and was moved up to the 6A class before the 2016 season.
Both offenses are electric, led by Kesean Carter and Jay’Ren Miller, respectively, and this will be a back and forth battle, but look for the Highlanders’ defense to make step up when necessary, giving The Woodlands the edge in this matchup.
