The Woodlands Wins 28-27 Playoff Thriller Over Klein Collins
The Woodlands kicked off to Klein Collins. Klein Collin’s quarterback, Tucker Parks, loves running the ball. He had three big runs in the 1st drive. Klein Collins steadily drove the ball down the field leading to running back #5 Randall Jackson rushing in for a touchdown, but they missed the extra point. Woodlands received possession for the 1st time, but Klein’s defense kept up the pressure, which forced Woodlands to punt it back to Klein Collins. Although, on defense, Woodlands made a big sack and later recovered a fumble on the 1-yard line, giving back possession to Woodlands. On the next play, Woodlands set up a wildcat formation #16. Jackson Bolender received a snap and rushed in for a touchdown. The 1st quarter finished with a score of 7-6 with Woodlands in the lead.
2nd Quarter
Klein Collins has possession. Tucker Parks threw two long passes to wide receivers #0 Rodny Ojo and #3 Elijah Boone who got them near the end zone. Tucker Parks was able to drive the ball in for a touchdown, regaining the lead. It was a back-and-forth fight for the rest of the 2nd quarter, making it difficult for each team to score. The quarter ended with a 30-yard field goal from the Woodlands. The 2nd quarter finished with a score of 13-10 with Klein Collins in the lead.
3rd Quarter
Klein Collins kicked off to The Woodlands. Quarterback #7 Mabrey Matteur still has a bad leg from The Willis Wildkats game from a couple of weeks ago, he was not afraid to run through the middle with the ball, taking consecutive heavy hits to get the 1st downs. The Woodlands was closing in on the endzone on 3rd & goal. Mabrey tried looking for a receiver but got sacked right before he could get the pass out and they opted for a 25-yard field goal to tie up the game at 13-13. Klein Collins was back with possession and they loved taking their time driving the ball down the field and draining the clock. They took the remainder of the 7 minutes of the 3rd quarter to score a touchdown, with Tucker Parks rushing it in again for his 2nd touchdown of the game. This finished the 3rd quarter with a score of 20-13 with Klein Collins back in the lead.
4th Quarter
Woodlands had possession within 4 minutes. They drove the ball down the field, and Mabrey found an opening and rushed in for a 15-yard touchdown. Now the game is tied up again at 20-20. Klein Collins had the ball, and two minutes in they ran a play-action, and Rodny Ojo was wide open and took it to the house for a 70-yard touchdown pass, putting Klein Collins back in the lead. It is a do-or-die situation for The Woodlands as they fight hard to get in the endzone. Mabrey repeatedly ran the ball even on his bad leg to guarantee that Woodlands got the 1st down, but he still threw it out to his receivers when necessary. With about a minute left in regulation, Woodlands finally was at the goal line. It was 3rd down, and Woodlands lined up in Wildcat formation with #0 Quanell Jr to receive the snap and rushed in for the touchdown. Due to a penalty on defense, Woodlands was able to move the ball up and decided to go for 2 to overtake the lead, and Quanell received the snap again and got the 2-point conversion, taking the lead with a minute left in regulation. Klein Collin was only down by one point so they just needed to get close enough to kick a field goal to win the game within a minute. Tucker Parks was playing phenomenal quick passes for big gains and threw them toward the sidelines to stop the clock. With 4 seconds left in the game, Klein Collins decided to kick a 47-yard field goal. However, it was a botched snap that led to Woodlands blocking the kick sealing the game with a final score of 28-27 with Woodlands continuing to round 3.
Conclusion
Both Tucker Parks and Mabrey Matteur are top-echelon quarterbacks and I can see why they’re both highly-ranked. This game could have easily gone the other way. If Klein Collins had not missed the 1st extra point or botched the snap for the last field goal, it could have been a victory for them. However, on the other side, if Mabrey was completely healthy and could have played at the best of his capabilities, Woodlands could have scored more points. Regardless, it was a great game. Klein Collins is out of the playoffs, but The Woodlands has a considerable round 3 playoff matchup between the top team in Texas and The Duncanville Panthers.
