Shoutout To Byron Nelson
The Bobcats are in the playoffs after an 0-5 start to the season. Their dramatic turnaround was fueled by an upset of Euless Trinity after they faced stiff district competition and a murderer’s row of pre-district competition with Sachse, San Angelo Central, and Justin Northwest, whose current combined record is 27-1. The sole loss belongs to Northwest, who lost to a little school named Aledo.
Byron Nelson is battle-tested, and ready to go into the playoffs with a lot of experience playing tough teams. In order to make a real run, they’ll have to find a way to actually beat some of those tough teams, but the Bobcats’ resilience is not to be denied.
Phil Danaher Breaks All-Time Wins Record
Coach Phil Danaher of the CC Calallen Wildcats is the proud owner of one of the biggest titles in Texas High School football: winningest coach. He passed G.A. Moore of Celina with a 31-7 win over Flour Bluff to take home the district title.
Calallen hasn’t limped to this record by any stretch of the means, they’ve been pummeling people this season by the truckload. They’ve only given up double digit points once, in a 17-12 loss to San Antonio Johnson, which is looking more like a fluke game every day. Congrats to Danaher, and may he find more success in this year’s version of the playoffs than in past years (Danaher does not have a state title on his resumé).

All of these games are going to be great. All of them. Every single one. 6A’s Region 1 is normally jam-packed with talent, but this year’s version could be an all-time best region. We normally have to wait until the 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounds to get matchups we’ll be seeing in the first and second rounds. It’s going to be a wild one.
