Tomball Victory Recap With Cale Hellums Interview
The Bridgeland Bears came into the season with high expectations, led by our #4 ranked player in the state, and Texas A&M commit, Conner Weigman. The Bears were in our Top 10 ranked teams early in the season, but with a Weigman injury and back-to-back losses midway through the season, they fell back to #22. Still, many expected them to make a run deep into the playoffs.
The Tomball Cougars came into the playoffs with lower expectations. After a 6-0 start, they dropped three straight games, getting out-scored 111-57 in those three games. They managed to squeak into the playoffs. However, in the playoffs, they’ve been playing their best football of the season, and just beat Rockwall-Heath, 35-21. Rockwall-Heath is another team in or near our Top 10 all year.
The Game Wasn’t Close
Tomball dominated. Aided by Conner Weigman being inured, the Cougars controlled the game from the start and cruised to a 48-13 win, their largest margin of victory this year except or a week two 52-0 win over Aldine Nimitz.
Tomball advances to face Denton Guyer in the 6A D2 Semifinals. Guyer is 13-1, with their only loss being a mid-season one-score loss at home against Allen. The winner of Tomball vs Denton Guyer will then face the winner of the Katy vs Westlake game, which is a showdown of our #3 vs #1 team in the state.
