The Tompkins Falcons (7-1) took on the Seven Lakes Spartans (5-3) on Friday night at Rhodes Stadium in Week 9 of the Texas high school football season.

Coming off a bye week, Seven Lakes was in search of winning their 3rd straight district game and locking up a playoff spot.

Katy Tompkins Pitches Second Straight Shutout

Tompkins looked to continue their winning ways going after an impressive result last week, where the Falcons beat Morton Ranch 47-0.

The Falcons pitched their second consecutive shutout in a 44-0 rout of the Spartans and earned a spot in the Division 1 playoffs.

Tompkins was the first to get on the board. Junior Caleb Komolafe and sophomore Caleb Blocker took turns taking the ball on the ground, leading the Falcons down the field. Komolafe took it in from 15 yards out to give the Falcons the early 7-0 lead.

Tompkins’ success on the ground would continue in the 2nd quarter, with senior QB Cole Francis punching it in from 8 yards to extend the Falcons lead to 14-0 going into the half.

2nd Half Domination by Tompkins

In their first possession of the 2nd half, Falcons’ QB Francis threw an interception that set up the Spartans with great field position. However, unforced penalties and errors including a bad snap which resulted in a 30-yard loss plagued Seven Lakes.

On the Falcons’ next possession, Caleb Komolafe showcased a truly special run, hurdling and juking out defenders on his way to a 49-yard touchdown.

Falcons Flying High

Following Komolafe’s score, The Falcons’ defense forced a Spartan turnover and scored on their next play from scrimmage, with Caleb Blocker would taking his turn, running it in from 38 yards giving Tompkins the 28-0 lead.

Tompkins added a field goal and a pair of TD’s in the 4th quarter, closing out the game 44-0. Komolafe ended the game with 11 rushes for 115 yards, and Blocker finished with 17 rushes for 154 yards. The Falcons averaged 7 yards per rush.

Francis finished the game with 87 yards passing and a touchdown, and he added a rushing TD.

Stifling Defense by the Falcons

The Spartans’ offense struggled all night with the size and power of the Falcons’ defense. Seven Lakes had a rough time trying to run the ball against the Falcons, with DL Sean Dubose and LB Bryce Shaink shutting down almost anything the Spartans threw at them.

Tompkins held the Spartans to 100 total yards (51 rushing yards, 49 passing yards) and only four first downs. The Falcons defense has allowed just 7 points scored against them in the last three games.

Seven Lakes looks to bounce back next week against Mayde Creek. Tompkins improves to 8-1 and will face Mayde Creek as well after a bye week.
