Top TXHSFB Player Flips Commitment for Second Time in a Week
A month ago, Norte Dame Fighting Irish fans were thrilled that they would be getting perhaps the best defensive back in high school football coming to South Bend next season. However, yesterday, their hearts were broken as they learned their top recruit changed his commitment and announced he would be going to play for the Oregon Ducks. However, a day later, the player has changed his commitment again.
Peyton Bowen, from Denton Guyer, has been one of the best defensive players in Texas high school football for a couple of years. The 5-Star defensive back initially announced his commitment to Notre Dame. Yesterday, he announced he was changing his commitment to Oregon. Then, today, Bowen announced another change of heart. Bowen will be an Oklahoma Sooner.

Oklahoma makes sense for Bowen. He has friends that play or will be playing for Oklahoma, including current Denton Guyer teammate QB Jackson Arnold. Also, Norman, Oklahoma, is just over a 2-hour drive from Denton, Texas, keeping Bowen closer to home and making it possible for his family to travel to his games. Then, though the Sooners defense struggled this year, Head Coach Brent Venables is well respected as a great defensive coach that has helped put several defensive players in the NFL. Last, the defensive system that Oklahoma plays should allow the versatile Bowen to shine, and he’ll likely start right away.
From a football standpoint, this would seem to be a better fit than Notre Dame and a much better fit than Oregon. While we always hope to see our high school players stay in State, this seems like a great destination for Bowen, and it will be good to have him close by and playing several games in Texas each year/
