Kliff Kingsbury’s 2018 class received a much-needed spark on the recruiting trail on Wednesday morning with Poteet safety Mekhi Garner announcing his commitment to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Along with Texas Tech, Mekhi also held offers from North Texas, UTSA, Navy and Air Force.
A three-star prospect, Mekhi recorded 39 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery as an anchor for a Poteet team that finished the season with an 11-4 mark following a deep postseason run before falling to Aledo.
Now following his senior season at Poteet, Garner will become a Red Raider as part of a class that currently features just five members headlined by four-star Denton Ryan wide receiver Gabriel Douglas.
