In 2020, Austin Westlake won their second straight Texas 6A state championship, and their third overall, by beating the Dragons of Southlake Carroll 52-34. It was a family affair, albeit a contentious one, as Westlake head coach Todd Dodge faced off against Southlake Carroll head man Riley Dodge, his son.
Westlake junior quarterback Cade Klubnik, a Clemson commit, accounted for 317 total yards and 3 TDs and no interceptions. Dragons QB Quinn Ewers, an Ohio State commitment, passed for 351 yards and 3 TDs, but committed three turnovers (2 INTs and a lost fumble).
