Waco LaVega is on an 11-game winning streak and coming off of a 24-14 win over Springtown. The defending state champions will likely come out strong both offensively and defensively as they aim to get a second consecutive title.

Carthage is coming off of a 49-42 win over Lampasas in search of their seventh title. Carthage has shown that lately it has been a second half team with a quick offensive approach after halftime adjustments. Head coach Scott Surratt is 6-for-6 on title appearances.

Texarkana Pleasant Grove enters it’s third straight title game appearance after defeating Midland Greenwood 48-20 last week, but there are a few questions about key players. Running back Bruce Garrett and Nick Martin are both battling undisclosed injuries and contributed very little in last week’s semifinal matchup. Pleasant Grove has one of the best defensive lines in the state behind Landon Jackson and Marcus Burris.

Wimberley enters the title match for it’s first appearance since 2011. Coming off of a 56-43 win over Silsbee last week, Wimberley looks to put up quick points against Pleasant Grove with their fast-paced offense.

WHAT: Class 5A, Division I Championship

WHO: Denton Ryan (15-0) vs. Alvin Shadow Creek (15-0)

Denton Ryan is coming off of a high after beating Frisco Lone Star 35-7 last week. The team has everything to prove against doubters who claim they have made it this far due to an ease in their scheduling. Denton Ryan’s defense should be expected to hold strong against Alvin Shadow Creek.

Alvin Shadow Creek dominated over San Antonio Wagner, 45-21, to advance to their second straight title match-up. Shadow Creek typically has a slow start in a game, but can not afford to make any mistakes against a fast paced Denton Ryan. The biggest question for Shadow Creek is whether Texas commit Xavion Alford will be playing or not.
