Wakeland Gets Back on Track With Win Over Frisco Heritage
After being brought back to earth last week against top-ranked Denton Ryan, the Wakeland Wolverines got back on track Thursday night with a 56-28 win over Frisco Heritage at the Ford Center in Frisco.
The Jared White Show
Once again, senior running back Jared White was the star for Wakeland. White finished the game with 419 yards of total offense and 6 touchdowns, including 354 yards rushing as White averaged almost 20 yards a carry.
The game got off to a slow start, with a Heritage punt and a Wakeland interception. Heritage got on the board first with a six-yard touchdown run from quarterback Easton Sweatman. The Wolverines countered with a 5-yard touchdown run from Alex Shirley, his first TD of the season.
The teams traded touchdowns again, and it was a competitive 14-14 game early in the second quarter. Then White took over. White had touchdown runs of 4 and 54 yards. The Wolverines went to halftime with a 28-14 lead.
The second half was more of the same. White had a 75-yard touchdown run to start the half. He then had another 53-yard touchdown run, as well as a 60-yard touchdown reception from QB Brennan Myer.
Sophomore running back Cooper Snyder put the exclamation point on the win with a 61-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
The Coyotes moved the ball well throughout the game. Heritage QB Easton Sweatman threw for 312 yards, and running back Shawn Mara had 2 touchdowns on the ground. However, the Wolverine defense got the stops when they needed to, now allowing just 15 points per game on defense.
The Wolverines (4-1, 3-1) now hit the most important three-game stretch of their season, with games against Frisco Independence, Frisco Lone Star, and Frisco Reedy coming up. Meanwhile, Heritage (2-4, 0-4) looks to get their first district win next Friday against Frisco Centennial.
