Wakeland Takes Care of Business, Thumps Liberty 59-21
Frisco Wakeland got off to a quick start, thanks to some big special teams plays, and never looked backed, cruising to a 59-21 victory over Frisco Liberty at Toyota Stadium Thursday night.
Wakeland blocked two punts in the first quarter, and returned both for touchdowns. Barrett Kennedy took advantage of the first one, and took it in from 8 yards out. Tristan Simmons snatched up the second blocked punt and scored from 22 yards out.
The first quarter did have some big offensive highlights from both teams. Cooper Snyder and Ashdyn Kahouch both scored touchdowns for the Wolverines, while Redhawk quarterback Will Jackson ran and threw for a touchdown. The Wolverines led 28-14 after one.
The second quarter saw continued success for the Wolverine offense. Snyder had another touchdown run, and quarterback Brennan Myer threw touchdowns to Ben Patterson and SMU Commit Tripp Riordan. With a 49-21 halftime lead, the starters didn’t see much action in the second half.
Myer finished with a very efficient 207 yards and 3 touchdowns. Snyder finished with 114 all-purpose yards to go with the two touchdowns. Jackson accounted for 246 all-purpose yards as well as all three touchdowns.
The Wolverines (3-3, 2-2) continue to hang around the playoff race, and have an interesting game against Frisco Centennial next Friday. Liberty (0-7, 0-5) gets a bye week before they continue district play against Centennial in two weeks.
