For football players and coaches across Texas, Monday means more than just flipping a page on the calendar.
It’s also the first day of the 2016 season for the majority of area teams. Schools in 4A and below and larger schools that did not participate in spring training are permitted to begin practices Monday. They’ll start with no-contact, helmets-only sessions before moving to contact practice Friday.
Schools in 5A and 6A that did participate in spring drills begin practices next Monday.
And so starts another year of Central Texas football. The area produced three state champions last season (La Vega, Bremondand Abbott), as well as three other state finalists (Cameron Yoe, Live Oak and Methodist Children’s Home).
