Galena Park North Shore vs. Atascocita
Both of these schools are without a doubt headed to Division 1 in the playoffs, so we’re looking at a matchup for both the division title and playoff seeding. Both of these team’s defenses are more than solid, and we’ll see how well Atascocita preforms against a traditional power like North Shore.
Midland High vs. Odessa Permian
Midland High is perhaps the most surprising team to come out of the West Texas area. Permian took a loss after having a first half lead on Wolfforth Frenship, but has had a bye week to work out the kinks and lock things down a little. Whoever wins this battle of one-loss teams will still have to go through mighty San Angelo Central to take the district title.
Austin Westlake vs. Lake Travis
This one needs no introduction. Both teams have a relatively unexpected loss on their schedule, but are still two of the top contenders in the state. This one is going to be a phenomenal matchup between two teams that are really capable of anything in postseason play, provided that they stay healthy long enough to make a serious run.
The Woodlands vs. Beaumont West Brook
The Woodlands has already established themselves as contenders. They’ve thumped Katy and Lufkin, and are certainly one of the favorites to win their region. West Brook doesn’t have the credentials that The Woodlands does, but they’re undefeated and not looking to back down. There should be some fireworks in this one with The Woodlands’ offensive surge in recent weeks.
Crockett vs. Newton
We’ll find out a lot about each of these 3A teams in this game. Crockett can score, but Newton’s defense has been unbelievably solid in recent weeks. Whoever wins this one might become as big as a title favorite in their respective divisions. This is a deep playoff matchup, gifted to us by the districting gods in Week Seven.
