Frisco Lone Star vs. Frisco Independence
The Rangers have one more hurdle to get past until they can claim the district crown: third year program Frisco Independence, who has surprised a lot of people this year. Lone Star played for a title last year, and this game will tell us a lot about how good the Rangers are going to be heading into this year’s edition of the playoffs.
Pflugerville Connally vs. Georgetown
Georgetown is sitting at 7-2, and needs a win to get into the playoffs. That should tell you a lot about the difficulty of district 19-5A. This game will also decide where dominating force Cedar Park ends up heading in the playoffs as well.
Refugio vs. Shiner
The de facto 15-2A Division 1 title game will also set the tone for the playoffs in Region IV. The team that pulls off a win here will be sitting pretty in terms of seeding and momentum heading into one of Texas High School football’s most difficult regions to win.
Hamlin vs. Roscoe
Many thought that 2-2A Division 2 was Seagraves’ to win. Now it’s down to Hamlin and Roscoe, two teams that have some weaknesses but play with a lot of heart. A win here is huge for the momentum and confidence of either school, with the added bonus of an outright district title.
Nederland vs. Port Neches-Groves
For Nederland, it’s simple. Win here, and you get to fight another day in the playoffs. For PNG, it’s about pride, and getting a win over your hated rival. A Nederland victory would send PNG to Division 2, and a Nederland loss might send them to Division 1. This rivalry is too intense for any playoff scenario to matter more than simply beating the people you don’t like, but making the playoffs would be a nice victory gift for Nederland.
