Overcoming Tragedy
In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past week or so, tragedies have struck The Woodlands and Iraan.
During a game with Round Rock, The Woodlands linebacker Grant Milton was taken to the hospital with a brain injury, and is still in an induced coma. Milton’s status has gained nationwide notice, and has culminated in support from around the nation as well. Texans defensive end JJ Watt donated 10,000 dollars to Milton’s cause, and many others around the nation have too. If you’d like to donate to the Miltons, you can at their GoFundMe link.
Last weekend, a bus carrying cheerleaders from Iraan was struck, killing a cheer sponsor and putting several more into intensive care. The story was chronicled by the New York Times, who happened to be covering the Iraan football game, then shifted their coverage to covering the tragedy. Cheerleaders from all over Texas and several other states will be showing up at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene, Texas to show support for Iraan in the midst of this tragedy.
It’s Underdog Weekend
There are several schools that we all knew we’d be talking about late into the season still in the discussion for a state title. Allen, DeSoto, Bremond, and many others have been teams that everyone has talked about all season.
All that means is that it’s the perfect time for underdogs to catch fire. Klein Collins squares off against DeSoto with a relative home field advantage, as the game is played in NRG Stadium. Allen is taking on The Woodlands, who has had a fantastic season, and is now playing with a lot of emotion coming off the injury to Grant Milton. Aledo is up against a very talented Mesquite Poteet squad looking for an upset.
If the big dogs assume that their opponents will just roll over and take it, they’re completely wrong. These are all underdogs that have had success this season against the giants of the state, and they won’t be easy outs.
DeSoto and West Orange-Stark Chasing History
West Orange-Stark has had one of the best defenses in Texas High School Football history.
DeSoto has seemed like a team of destiny this season, dispatching foes in every single way possible.
Both of them are only two wins away from making history, not just as state champions, not just as excellent state champions, but as two of the best teams with some of the best elements of football that we’ve ever seen.
