Waxahachie Life enters program’s first playoff game with school record

Waxahachie Life

The playoffs begin this week, and teams are searching for ways to generate as much momentum as possible in the upcoming days.

Some teams, however, are already riding a wave into the bi-district round, including Waxahachie Life.

The Mustangs capped off their regular-season schedule by setting a school record for points in a game by beating Quinlin Ford 71-39.

Life scored just 14 points in the opening quarter but posted 34 points in the second period to propel it to the benchmark.

Along the way, quarterbacks Gage Mayfield and Coby Oder each threw a touchdown pass — to each other. Mayfield finished with 170 passing yards and a pair of scores along with 218 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Finishing third in the District 9-4A, Division I standings with a 7-3, 3-2 record, the Mustangs open their playoff run with a first-round encounter against Palestine (5-5, 3-2 District 10-4A, Division I). The game will be played Thursday at Forney’s City Bank Stadium with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
