Van Horn looked to extend its consecutive playoff streak to five seasons on Friday when it took on Fort Davis in a matchup that would decide the final playoff spot in District 6-1A Division I.
It was a back-and-forth contest throughout, but Van Horn entered the fourth quarter trailing 64-56.
Luckily for the Eagles, their offense had a response. First, Joey Anchondo connected with Ethan Hinojos down the middle for a 16-yard score to cut the Fort Davis lead to two after the point after kick was blocked.
And then after a fourth down stop by the Van Horn defense, Cy Garcia sliced through the Fort Davis defense for a 32-yard touchdown for what would wind up being the game-winning score for the Eagles in a 70-64 ball game.
Garcia finished with 158 yards rushing and three touchdowns, while Hinojos had four catches for 153 yards and four scores.
Van Horn will now square off against Whiteface in Rankin on Friday as it looks to win in the bi-district round for the second consecutive year.
