6A Team of the Week: Cedar Ridge Raiders
With five minutes to go in its game against McNeil on Friday, Cedar Ridge’s playoff hopes were on life support.
The Raiders trailed 28-13, needing a win to clinch their 10th consecutive playoff berth.
What ensued was chaos.
Cedar Ridge quarterback Jacari Killingsworth connected with Jordan Ramsey for two touchdowns in the closing minutes to cut McNeil’s lead to 28-26.
The Raiders had more magic up their sleeves on the ensuing two-point conversion as Zane Wofford pulled in a circus-style, left handed throw from Baran Robinson to send the game to overtime.
But the drama wasn’t over.
After the Raiders blocked a McNeil field goal attempt in overtime, they had trouble with their own field goal attempt as they sought to win the game.
The initial snap went over holder Zane Wofford’s head, causing Raider stress levels to rise at the thought of another overtime.
But Wofford didn’t panic.
He quickly picked up the ball, rolled to his right, and found sophomore Reese Brooks in the end zone for an improbable touchdown to win the game 34-28.
What an amazing overtime comeback ! Our team never gave up. We wanted it more and so did our fans. #weare @RRCRFootball @Shaun_Rut @FlxAtx @statesman @juice7v7 @varsity_news @NTXHSFB @Jacar111 @ReeseBrooks83 @robinsonbaran @cole_3thompson pic.twitter.com/oWR6RrwtoF

After this wild win to seal a playoff berth, the Raiders will need to keep their momentum rolling this week as they face a daunting bi-district matchup against three-time defending state champions Westlake.
