Week 2 Team of the Week: Abilene TLCA Eagles
Abilene TLCA’s first year of 11-man football did not go as planned a season ago. The Eagles finished 0-10 and scored just 93 points on the season.
Year two didn’t get off to a much better start as Water Valley dominated the Eagles 62-9 in week one.
However, last Saturday, the Eagles finally got the payoff they had been working for.
Quarterback Johnathon Rico threw for 59 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another 79 yards as the Eagles edged Munday 14-9. Josh Soto added another 35 yards and a score, while the Eagle defense held Munday to just 160 total yards.
Even more remarkable, as reported by Brandon McAuliffe, the defense held Munday to just one third down conversion on 16 attempts, while also stopping the Moguls six times on fourth down.
One of those fourth down stops came inside the red zone on Munday’s final drive.

Head coach Jeremy Kirk has now led the Eagles to their first-ever victories in both six-man football and 11-man football.
Coming up this week, the Eagles will look to build off that win as they travel to take on another former six-man team in Sterling City on Friday at 7:00.
