2A Team of the Week: Hawley Bearcats
Hawley made its first appearance in a UIL Football State Title Game a year ago, and based off the early evidence from this season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Bearcats back at AT&T Stadium in December.
This past week, Hawley faced a tough task against Albany, the number one team in 2A Division II.
The Bearcats weren’t fazed.
Austin Cumpton rushed for 135 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries while quarterback Rodey Hooper took care of business when he needed to with 144 yards passing on 11 completions.
On the other side of the ball, the Hawley defense was just as impressive, finishing with 14 tackles for loss on the night and two interceptions.
It was a statement victory for the Bearcats as they knocked off Albany 26-14 in their final non-district contest this season.
