6A Team of the Week: El Paso Montwood Rams
Montwood looked in trouble midway through the fourth quarter in its showdown against Franklin down 42-28.
However, the Rams didn’t give up.
They quickly responded with an 80-yard drive as Isaac Galvan found Kaleb Alvarez for a nine-yard score with four minutes to go.
Galvan had a huge night with 460 passing yards and three touchdowns, and he delivered again on the Rams’ next drive as he led his team down the field before Izayuh Claudio punched in from two yards out to make the score 42-41 with under a minute to go.
It seemed like the game was headed to overtime until an error on the extra point led to an all-out scramble. Holder Michael Southern kept his composure, picking up the ball, rolling right, and finding a wide open Brandon Salcedo for the two-point conversion (video of the play is below).
It was an unbelievable way to secure a huge 43-42 victory on a night where Montwood was a 19-point underdog.
Montwood will look to keep its momentum rolling when it takes on Eastlake this Thursday.
