6A Team of the Week: Sam Houston Tigers
The longest losing streak in district play in Texas is over after 100 games.
The Sam Houston Tigers hadn’t won a district game since 2003 before their matchup against Chavez last Friday.
However, behind a 29-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trevan Williams to David Sanchez in the fourth quarter and a stiff defensive performance that limited Chavez to just 80 yards of offense, the Tigers were able to pull out a tight 13-12 victory.

The win improves the Tigers to 4-2 on the season. It’s the most wins the program has had in a single season since 2001, a testament to the turnaround head coach Charles Brown III is overseeing in his second year in charge.
However, the Tigers will have little time to celebrate their big victory. Next up will be a daunting test against Houston ISD powerhouse against Houston Lamar this Thursday.
