6A Team of the Week: Wylie East Raiders
When it comes to rivalry matchups, it always seems like a good bet that the game will go down to the wire.
That was the case on Friday as undefeated Wylie East found itself in a dogfight with crosstown rival Wylie.
Wylie East led 18-10 in the fourth quarter, but Wylie quarterback Jagger Bale scored on a three-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 18-16. Two drives later, Pirate kicker Braden Gilbert converted a 20-yard field goal with just under four minutes to go put Wylie up 19-18.
However, the Raiders weren’t about to let their undefeated season slip away. They embarked on a 10-play, 60-yard drive that was capped off with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Jaedon Hubbard to Terrell Washington Jr. with just 20 seconds left.
Hubbard finished with 179 yards and three touchdowns on the night, while Washington had four catches for 57 yards and two touchdowns himself.
It was the first meeting between the schools since 2015, and it’s safe to say the Raiders enjoyed themselves after earning a hard-fought victory to improve to 7-0 on the season.
