6A Team of the Week: Rock Hill Blue Hawks
Rock Hill had never made the playoffs in its four years as a varsity program.
But with the Blue Hawks only needing a win last Thursday against McKinney to make school history, they were not going to let an opportunity like that slip away. The defense soared to the occasion, forcing four turnovers in a 21-14 victory that secured Rock Hill’s first-ever ticket to the playoffs.
“I am extremely proud of our team,” Rock Hill head coach Mark Wilkinson said. “To be honest, a lot of people doubted us and for these group of players to put Rock Hill on the map is awesome. I am very proud of all of the Rock Hill Community and School. It is a special place to be.”
Jayden Bradley and Armaree Brown each gave the McKinney offense fits with two interceptions. Bradley took one of his back for a touchdown while his other pick helped stop a promising McKinney drive late in the fourth quarter.

Offensively, Blue Hawk quarterback Christian Lewis threw for 145 yards and a touchdown. Jiyere Cogshell and Jaylen Brown-Delgado each contributed to the rushing attack. Cogshell finished with 60 yards on the ground, while Brown-Delgado had the Blue Hawks’ lone rushing touchdown.
With the Division I and Division II split in 6A, Rock Hill actually heads to the 6A Division II playoffs as its district’s number one seed. That means the Blue Hawks will get a home game this Thursday against Hebron. Wilkinson can barely contain his excitement for that historic moment saying, “Thursday night is going to be electric at Children’s Health Stadium.”
