Sunray has quite the explosive offense and that offense was clicking last Friday as it jumped out to a 34-8 lead in the second quarter against Gruver.
However, despite facing the sixth-ranked Bobcats, the Greyhounds didn’t give up. Trailing 41-20 in the fourth quarter, the Greyhound offense came alive.
Quarterback Briggs Satterfield found Walker Maupin on a screen pass that he turned into a 21-yard touchdown before airing it out to Michael McCloy for a 97-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter. Those two scores cut Sunray’s lead to just 41-34.
Then with just over a minute to go, Greyhound running back Pratt McLain scored on a two-yard run. Gruver converted the ensuing two-point try to snatch a 42-41 victory from the arms of the Bobcats.
Satterfield had a monster night, finishing with 356 passing yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 71 yards. McCloy led the receiving corps with 209 receiving yards and a score.
District 2-2A Division I is just a four team district, so with the win, Gruver secures the district title since it also beat Vega last week. The district is taking a week off this week. The Greyhounds will wrap up their regular season on Friday Nov. 3 at home against Boys Ranch.
