Week One 2A Team of the Week: Stamford Bulldogs
2A Team of the Week: Stamford Bulldogs
Stamford fired off a warning shot this past Friday. The Bulldogs are not to be overlooked in 2A Division I after they destroyed defending 2A Division II state champion Albany 50-6.
Quarterback Christian Duran stole the show. He rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns while adding another 221 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
Those two passing touchdowns were highlight reel worthy too. One was an 88 yarder to Cle Whitfield and the other was a 48-yard connection with Bradon Jimenez.
By halftime, it was already 36-6, a testament to the Bulldog defense and special teams as much as the offense.
Stamford head coach Wayne Hutchinson said the Bulldog “team defensive speed forced several three-and-outs and our offense capitalized on the field position.” He was also very impressed with his squad’s special teams, which “pinned Albany on their end of the field for the first half.”
Hutchinson also praised Diego Cantu and Jessie Rodriguez for their work on the offensive line. They opened some gaping holes which allowed Duran to have so much success and Kaston Vega to rush for 42 yards on six carries.
The Stamford Bulldogs beat the Albany Lions 50-6 and became the 21st Texas high school football team in history to win 700 games (out of over 1,500 Texas high school teams). 111 years of Stamford teams share this honor. Congratulations #bulldogs! #HD71 #fridaynightlights pic.twitter.com/VWlnLmwReD
