Week Seven 2A Team of the Week: Junction
2A Team of the Week: Junction Eagles
Heading into district play with a 4-2 record, Junction had already surpassed its win total from each of the previous two seasons.
However, the Eagles faced a daunting road trip to Stockdale last Friday. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football listed the Cowboys as 26-point underdogs heading into the matchup.
The Eagles played anything like underdogs in a nail-biter. Tied at 28 after regulation, the game went to overtime. In both the first and second overtime, Chasen Doyal connected with Aidan Cardwell for a touchdown. But in the second overtime, Stockdale missed its two-point conversion allowing Junction to secure a 43-41 win on a successful two-point conversion rush by Cardwell.
Cardwell had a monster night running for 123 yards and two touchdowns, while also catching four passes for 28 yards and another three touchdowns. Doyal finished with 135 yards passing and three touchdowns. His leading receiver was Caden Roberts, who had six catches for 85 yards.
With the win, Junction has now matched its win total from 2020 when it finished 5-5. Looking ahead, the Eagles will look to win their sixth game for the first time since 2016 when they host Harper this Friday.
