6A Team of the Week: Medina Valley Panthers
2024 has been Medina Valley’s first-ever year of 6A football. You wouldn’t know it at first glance. The Panthers’ latest impressive feat came last Friday as they took down Laredo Alexander in a 14-7 slugfest. With the win, they improved to 3-0 in district play.
All the scoring came in the fourth quarter. Jason Zendejas found the end zone on a five-yard run before Alexander answered with a kickoff return for touchdown. Medina Valley didn’t panic. Instead, they went right down the field again with Brody Ripps taking a pitch 36 yards for the go-ahead touchdown
The Panther defense then forced a turnover on downs to seal the win.

It was that combination of defense and the Panthers’ triple option attack that was key to victory.
Alexander finished with just 175 yards of total offense. James Vallejo and Aden Scullark also forced fumbles for the Panthers.
Offensively, Dezerin Wright led the ground game with 105 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Zendejas finished with 92 yards, while quarterback Xavier Gonzalez pitched in with 60 rushing yards.
The Panthers have proven they can compete at the 6A level. Now, they’ll look to grab total control of the district title race this Thursday as they travel to Laredo United, the only other undefeated team in District 30-6A.
