2A Team of the Week: Kerens Bobcats
Kerens punched above its weight taking on 3A Division II side Corsicana Mildred in their annual rivalry game. When the two teams met last year, Mildred came away with a 45-35 victory.
However, Kerens came out hot out of the gate this year. Quarterback Lane Lynch threw for three first half touchdowns as the Bobcats jumped out to a 28-14 halftime lead before holding off Mildred for an impressive 28-27 road victory.
Lynch had a big night throwing for 315 yards. He kept receiver Mykel Lattimore busy as the two connected nine times for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Nehemiah Massey also grinded out 86 rushing yards on 25 carries.
Sitting at 2-1, Kerens is now have to its best start since 2017. It needs just one more win to match its win total from last year. It will aim to get that victory this week when it hosts Dawson on Thursday night.
