Week Two 6A Team of the Week: North Crowley
6A Team of the Week: North Crowley Panthers
North Crowley arguably had the result of the weekend in Texas. The Panthers edged defending 6A Division II state champion DeSoto 57-51 in a back-and-forth thriller. The victory snapped DeSoto’s 24-game winning streak.
North Crowley senior receiver Quentin Gibson was the star of the show. He had seven receptions for 180 yards and four touchdowns. But for every one of his touchdowns, DeSoto had an answer.
The Eagles led 44-43 entering the fourth quarter before the Panther run game finished the game off. Cornelius Warren broke free for a 66-yard touchdown early in the fourth to put North Crowley up five.

Four minutes later, fellow Panther running back Daniel Bray added a 63-yard touchdown scamper to give North Crowley the breathing room to pull off the upset. Warren finished with 153 yards on the ground, while Bray pitched in with 128 yards himself.
A year ago, the Panthers made their deepest playoff run since their 2003 state championship, falling short to Duncanville in the state semifinals. They showed on Friday, they’ll be a threat to go one step further this year.
They’ll look to keep the momentum going this Friday when they face another 6A power as Denton Guyer comes to town.
