In a highly anticipated season opener on August 29, 2024, the Westlake Chaparrals faced the Prosper Eagles at Chaparral Stadium and emerged victorious with a 35-14 win. The Chaparrals started strong, showcasing a balanced and potent offense and a suffocating defense.
Westlake opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 46-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jax LeFevre to wide receiver Lawson Grimes, giving the Chaparrals a 7-0 lead. Prosper responded with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Judah Bogard, tying the game at 7-7.
However, Westlake quickly regained control with another touchdown drive, ending the first half with a 14-7 lead. The Chaparrals’ defense, led by standout linebacker Elliott Schaper, who tallied 13 total tackles and three sacks, consistently pressured Prosper’s offense.
Westlake’s offense continued to shine in the second half, with running back Zane Minors scoring on an 18-yard run and Jax LeFevre connecting again with Joey Pojasek for a 30-yard touchdown pass.
The Chaparrals’ defense dominated, holding Prosper to just one more score for the rest of the game. Brandon Clark and Bo Massengale each contributed an interception, and the defense recorded a total of four sacks, stifling the Eagles’ offensive efforts.
Westlake running back Trevor Suter also added a 24-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the game at 35-14.
Next week, Westlake will face San Benito, while Prosper looks to rebound against Rockwall-Heath. This dominant performance sets the tone for Westlake’s 2024 campaign as they aim for another state championship run.
