San Antonio Reagan will begin life after David Wetzel now that he is with Baylor. It should pan out to be a seamless transition however with former defensive coordinator Lyndon Hamilton now at head coach and bringing back 10 starters from last year’s 9-2 team.
San Antonio Churchill, last year’s district runner-up returns 11 starters from an 11-3 team with several options available on offense, especially in the running game. Running backs Diego Vela and Austin Castilleja will be a formidable duo whose differing running styles will help wear down opposing defenses.
San Antonio Johnson will be chomping at the bit as well with their strength visible in their defense as they return practically every starter from a (7-4, 4-2) squad. Linebackers Tanner Reed and Cole Jacobson will be at the forefront alongside defensive back Jack Scarborough. Wide receiver Brandon McDuffie will be a huge weapon on offense.
I’m inclined to pick Churchill due to their running game but Reagan has a great running game also and the upper hand in my opinion due to how the program has proved to be successful the past couple of years. Johnson will keep the district tight as well but I like Reagan as the favorite.
Prediction: San Antonio Reagan

As a whole, District 26-6A should be an improved product in 2017 after four of the seven members finished the season below .500 last season. Similar to 2016, though, I expect Churchill and Reagan to headline the league once again next season.
Each are tasked with losing key pieces, such as quarterback Jordan Billups and linebacker Cort Jaquess gone from Churchill, while Reagan loses much of a stout defense and running back Marquis Duncan. There seems to be enough in place for each to remain formidable next season and I give Churchill the slide edge to win district this time around. Between Diego Vela and Austin Castilleja, Churchill is going to feature a two-headed force in the backfield and I think the defense will be able to do enough to prevent opponents from matching what the offense churns out on most occasions.

San Antonio Reagan and Churchill emerged as the two standouts from this district last year after Reagan finished undefeated in district yet again while the Churchill Chargers made an impressive run into the regional finals. I believe that this district will come down to these two teams again with San Antonio Johnson as a dark horse with their nine returning starters on defense
Reagan will be breaking in a new head coach in 2017 in former defensive coordinator Lyndon Hamilton while the Chargers will have to replace their starting quarterback. I’m going to give Churchill the slight edge to knock Reagan off the top of District 26-6A. I like the one-two running combo of Vela and Castilleja and projected starting quarterback Derek Perez saw time last year which should help. This should be a fun district to watch in 2017.
Prediction: San Antonio Churchill
