A new era has begun in Cuero.
On the heels of Travis Reeve’s departure for New Caney, Cuero was looking for someone to guide them back to state prominence.
Thursday evening, the Gobblers officially found their man.
Jack Alvarez was approved as Cuero’s new head football coach and athletic director.
The Gobblers won the Class 4A, Division II championship two years ago, but they suffered through a 3-7 season in 2019 and failed to make the playoffs.
Alvarez, who comes from a two-season stint at Copperas Cove, where the Bulldawgs are now searching for a third head coach in four years, has plenty of experience winning big games despite missing the playoffs last year.
During his 22-year career, Alvarez won a state championship with Ennis in 2014 and took Kirbyville to the title game in 2008 and 2009.
