10 Best Small School Players Still in the UIL Postseason

[su_dropcap style=”simple” size=”9″]T[/su_dropcap]he Texas high school football playoffs are in full swing and a number of small-school players are making their mark.

Here is a look at 10 of the best players in 4A and below still taking part in the postseason:

1. Keaontay Ingram, RB, Carthage

A Texas commit, Ingram has established himself as one of the top running backs in the state regardless of classification. He rushed for more than 2,000 yards and led Carthage to a state title as a junior and has goals of doing the same to close out his illustrious high school career.

2. Jojo Weeks, QB, Wimberley

Weeks was extremely impressive in Wimberley’s come-from-behind victory over Cuero over the weekend. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound signal caller has a rocket and is poised in the pocket. A UTSA pledge, Weeks can pick apart opposing defenses.

3. Xavier Benson, LB, Tex. Pleasant Grove

Benson is a monster linebacker/defensive end that loves coming off the edge and getting to the quarterback. The Texas Tech commit is one of the most athletic defensive players in the state and forces offenses to plan around him.

4. Jaquayln Crawford, WR, Rockdale

An Oklahoma commit, Crawford is one of the most explosive athletes in the state. While he missed time due to injury earlier this year, Crawford has bounced back in a major way. With elite level speed and eye-popping quickness, Crawford is a threat to take it to the house at any moment.

5. Joshua Moore, WR, Yoakum

Moore spent some time at IMG Academy out in Florida before returning to Yoakum for his senior season. And the highly touted recruit has been an important part of Yoakum’s deep playoff run. Moore can stretch the field and commands extra attention on the outside.

6. Jordan Moore, S, Yoakum

The other half of the Moore brother duo, Jordan is a completely different player. The Texas A&M is a shut down defensive back and will play in secondary at the next level. But Moore can also do some damage with the ball in his hands as evidenced by his monster stats at running back.

7. Dylan Jantz, ATH, Gunter

Jantz might not be the biggest player, but the rising junior is downright nasty with the ball in his hands. Jantz projects to play slot receiver at the next level, but he’s been seeing a lot of time in the backfield and has racked up more than 1,000 yards on the ground.

8. Tamauzia Brown, ATH, Newton

Brown is the definition of an athlete.

The dude literally plays all over the field but is at his best in the secondary. Brown has notched double-digit interceptions this season and can stop any receiver that lines up against him. He’s also a playmaker at wide receiver and wildcat quarterback.

9. Darwin Barlow, RB, Newton

Brown’s partner in crime is fellow junior Barlow, who has been wrecking shop in the postseason. Barlow is a physical tailback that hits the hole hard and gashes defenses. While he might not be the flashiest back, Barlow moves the chains and has enough speed to go the distance.

10. Vernon Jackson, ATH, Boling

A jumbo athlete, Jackson can do it all.

He led Boling to a state title appearance while playing quarterback and has his team right back in the championship mix. An Alabama commit, Jackson is also a big-time player on the defensive side of the ball and can play defensive end and linebacker.
