15 Year Old Still In Hospital A Month After Helmet-To-Helmet Hit
A Port Neches-Groves junior varsity football player is recovering at a Houston hospital after a collision caused a brain injury.
Noah Jackson, 15, was involved in a helmet-to-helmet hit during a kickoff against Kingwood Park on October 14th.
Jackson initially walked off the field but stumbled upon getting up. After he was on the sideline, a trainer began to tend to him when he began to slur his words. The trainer called for an ambulance, which transported him to a nearby airport. Jackson was Lifeflighted to Texas Children’s Hospital and underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure around his brain.
Doctors place Jackson in a medically induced coma for two days.
Slowly but surely, Jackson, who is one of three fraternal triplets, started to show signs of improvement. The family said a couple of days after the incident, he started to squeeze hands and react to basic commands.
Jackson was removed from ICU on October 22 and began physical rehab at the hospital. He is walking with assistance and had his feeding tube removed on November 2nd.
He is scheduled to be released from the hospital at the beginning of December.
Support has poured in from across the country. A Facebook group run by Jackson’s family called Prayers for Noah has more than 12,000 members.
Schools from around the state have sent cards and signed banners and footballs to the hospital. Community members have offered to help make accommodations to his home in Groves to make it wheelchair accessible as he continues to recover.
