It looks like another Texas team from the 1980s is getting the “30 for 30” treatment from ESPN.
According to an ESPN spokesperson, ESPN Films “are in the early stages” of producing a documentary on the 1988 Dallas Carter state championship football team.
The team is known for beating Odessa Permian of Friday Night Lights fame in the state semifinals on the way to a state title. After the state championship, six different members of that Cowboys team were convicted in connection with several robberies. Eventually, their title was taken away after Gary Edwards had been ruled ineligible.
The same ESPN spokesperson said that no release date has yet to be set, and it looks like it’s a long way out. Whenever the film does premiere, it will be appointment viewing for the majority of the state.
