You could possibly search the whole state of Texas this year and not find a harder-hitting defensive presence than Arp’s junior safety DeMarvion Overshown. The offensive players that are taking the brunt of this punishment aren’t the only ones taking notice of the Tigers star, but many of the nation’s top coaches have their attention fully committed on Overshown.

Since February 9, The Arp rising senior has received a staggering 11 offers with programs all keen on having Overshown feature for them in two years. The list of offers included Alabama and Clemson, the two teams who featured in this past season’s CFB Playoff, LSU, South Carolina, Ohio State and Texas A&M among others. In total, Overshown has 20 offers on the table, with that number sure to grow by the start of next season.

For this Tiger, who was named the District 9-3A Defensive MVP, all signs lead to his game translating on the next level. Moving from linebacker to safety at his 6-4 frame, one can see the versatility he has to play in both positions. Whether it is the linebacker with explosive speed and exceptional hands, or a safety who defends the run like a linebacker, both bode well for whatever team eventually lands this four-star prospect.

One area of concern is the competition that Arp plays during the season. That could have an effect on Overshown at the next level, but all those claims were put to rest with the influx of offers he’s received in the past few weeks. Those around the game see the skill set that this young man possesses, and everything says that he will dominate at any level of competition that he has in front of him.

Overshown produced 153 tackles from safety in his junior season after spending his sophomore season at linebacker, finishing with seven sacks and 118 tackles that season. This is astounding considering he topped his previous numbers from a less intensive position. Add three interceptions to those numbers and the stats tell you everything one needs to know. One thing that stands out, however: the upside for improvement and coachability is there, something one does not see very often from a prep star of this stature.

It will be a lofty task to produce even better numbers than this Tiger has already tallied next season, but if any one player was to improve, it would be Overshown. The town of Arp and coaches nationwide need to get ready, because there could be an even better “show” coming this fall.
