2024 Malakoff Tigers Season Preview
Malakoff Tigers
Head Coach: Jamie Driskell (16th season; 158-35 record)
Last Season: 16-0; 6-0 in district (Defeated Franklin in 3A Division I State Championship)
Malakoff Key Players and Storylines
The scary thing for opponents is a number of players return from that stout defense, especially in the front seven. Parker Poteete and James Studley are quite the tandem at linebacker. Defensive linemen Michael Elliott and Daniel Norrell made themselves comfortable in opponents’ backfields last season with a number of tackles for loss.
Offensively, the Tigers will rely on their backfield. Quarterback Mike Jones (2,621 passing yards) did a tremendous job of making plays without mistakes last season. He had 31 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions. He also added 831 touchdowns and another 14 touchdowns on the ground.
Alongside him, running back Jerrion Hall (1,490 rushing yards) was always a threat to go the distance. He finished his sophomore season with 31 touchdowns. Between these two dynamic athletes, defenses will have to remain on their toes for all 48 minutes.
Jerrion Hall(Malakoff) totaled 210 points in 2023, finishing top-20 in Texas. The Sophomore RB totaled 34 TDs offensively, combining for 1,692 total yards. #NextLevelAthlete #TXHSFB @JerrionHall @MalakoffFB pic.twitter.com/NoGfhbnyTv

Out at receiver, Chauncey Hogg, last year’s District MVP, is off to the college level. Kayland Davis (219 receiving yards and four touchdowns) and tight end Evan Loper (174 receiving yards and two touchdowns) appear to be next in line to step into bigger roles this season.
The Tigers also have a strong foundation up front. Shawn Meadows, Hunter Reeves, and JaMyron Walker were all first team all-district selections on the offensive line last year.
Malakoff has a good group of players back on both sides of the ball. Expect the Tigers to be in the mix at the top of 3A Division I again this season.
