That’s the minimum expectation again this year. Head coach Mark Behrens said this group has more experience than they did a year ago.
The offense has a sturdy foundation to build on with three starters back on the offensive line in 6’3”, 270-pound tackle Eli Sheffield, 6’2”, 255-pound tackle Alex Davis, and 6’1”, 270-pound center CJ Arimah. Quarterback Christian McCaffrey (1,253 passing yards and 11 touchdowns) not only has a great football name, but he’ll bring a reliable presence to the offensive huddle as a returning starter.
Junior running back LaDainian Jones (275 rushing yards) is poised to make the jump to the starting role and is the fastest player on the Mustang offense. In the passing game, Brendon Quinn (149 receiving yards) is another speedy option out of the slot.
Defensively, the Mustangs pack a punch in the front seven with defensive ends Trindon Bennett (40 tackles) and Z’havien Ramsey (26 tackles) returning along with 6’4”, 305-pound defensive tackle Trason Haley (62 tackles, two sacks). Behind them, junior Willehado Palomo is a tackling machine at linebacker where he’s joined by fellow returning starter Walker Williams (38 tackles).

After last year’s blip, Behrens believes the Mustangs are set to rebound behind a high-powered offense. He’s challenged his players to go bring home their third district title in four years this season.
