Every year at Thanksgiving we gather together to give thanks for all the wonderful things we get to celebrate. Of course, the centerpiece of that organized celebration is a big, fat turkey, which is an apt reminder that some people don’t always make things better for everyone else (or themselves, for that matter).
With that in mind, we’re inaugurating the first-ever 2015 High School Sports Turkeys of the Year. Think the spirit of Texas Monthly’s annual Bum Steer Awards, except solely for high school and youth sports. We’ll outline who they all are and what they did below, and you tell us who you think was the ultimate turkey — and why — in the comments below. In one sense all deserve top billing, which isn’t to say that they’re winners.
John Jay assistant football coach Mack Breed — He ordered two players to take out a referee because he had allegedly used a racial slur when referring to Jay players. So far, the referee’s case looks to be in good shape. Breed? Not so much.
