It was a busy night for former Texas high school football players at the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit. 23 players who played their high school football in Texas were drafted.
Two former Texas high school football players were taken in the first round. The first off the board is from Byron Murphy, the former defensive tackler for the DeSoto Eagles. Murphy played his college ball for Texas and was selected 16th overall by the Seattle Seahawks.
Following Murphy was offensive tackle Tyler Guyton, who was taken number 29 by the Dallas Cowboys. Guyton played high school football at Manor High School and went on to play college football for Oklahoma.
The second round was packed full of former Texas high school football players. Ja’Lynn Polk from Lufkin was selected 37th by the Patriots. Right after Polk, with pick 38, the Titans picked Huntsville DT T’Vondre Sweat. Former Halletsville running back Jonathan Brooks went number 46 to the Panthers, former Fort Bend Ridge Point WR Adonai Mitchell went number 52 to the Colts, former Jersey Village OL Patrick Paul went number 55 t0 the Dolphins, and former Duncanville Panther CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr. went number 61 to the Detroit Lions.
