Shedeur Sanders, the former Texas high school star from Trinity Christian in Cedar Hill, is still undrafted heading into Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft. A few months ago, the Colorado quarterback was projected to be the potential No. 1 pick. If that had happened, he would have signed a deal worth over $48 million across four years. Now, if he slides into the 4th or 5th round, he is staring at a contract closer to $4–5 million over four years. That is a massive financial swing for a player once expected to lead a franchise.
Sanders was a Heisman finalist and won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award last season, but questions around off-field narratives and family influence have clouded his stock. Friday night was a stunner, with multiple quarterbacks flying off the board — none named Shedeur.
It is shocking, considering Sanders’s body of work in the field. During his college career, he passed for over 14,000 yards and 134 touchdowns, showing poise, accuracy, and leadership at every stop. Many analysts believe he is still one of the best pure passers available.
He is still the same player who threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns last year. Talent is not the issue. Some experts believe Shedeur will make one NFL team look really smart when they finally pull the trigger. For now, he waits, a Texas kid still chasing that NFL dream.
