In 2013, the UIL created class 6A and changed divisions all around. At that point in time, 6A was deemed to be schools with 2,100 students and up. 4A was to contain schools of anywhere from 465 to 1,059 students. Needless to say, the more students in your school, the more of an advantage you have.
That’s why Liberty Hill’s victory over Austin Anderson last night was so surprising. Liberty Hill’s been one of the best teams in whatever classification they were in for a very long time, and Anderson has never really hit the mark. Regardless, when you’re working with twice the students, it should stand to reason that you have more talent, more ability to put fans in the stands, more funds for your school, the list goes on and on.
There’s a definite difference here: Austin Anderson might not make it to the playoffs while Liberty Hill is on a deep run. However, the disparity of students at each school makes this blowout feel like a little bit of an upset. While dominant in the past, Liberty Hill isn’t as good as what they once were.

In the first half, Anderson hung with Liberty Hill, only trailing by four at the half. The Panthers quickly pulled away in the second half and Anderson couldn’t keep up. Liberty Hill amassed more than 400 rushing yards as they rolled over the school that should be more talented than them based on most measurables.
Time will tell whether the Panthers are for real or not, but this victory was definitely one that came against several odds.
