First off, no one had more fun than Del Valle
There was a bunch of fun to be had last Friday, but no one had more fun than the crew from Del Valle.

You could really tell Del Valle wanted this, and they were happy when they got it. Good for them.
On a serious note about Del Valle…they might be pretty good
I don’t know what everyone else saw in the Cardinals, but I saw a team that took the field to win and have fun doing it. They’re fast, they’re not extremely tall, but that ultimately won’t matter for most teams.
How they preform in pads remains to be seen, but from what I’ve seen in limited action in shorts, I really like what Del Valle brings to the table. If they can transfer that over to the gridiron they’ll be formidable.
Under the radar guys really shone
I swear I’ve looked everywhere for these names, and I can’t find them. If you can, shoot me an email so I can get this part accurate ([email protected]).
I came away from the day really impressed with two players from teams that didn’t have such a hot performance: #85 from Alamo Heights and #14 from Copperas Cove. I couldn’t find any definite information on their varsity numbers, previous letters, or stats, but they definitely impressed. They both caught some difficult passes, and I saw at least three drives where they each essentially carried their team to the end zone. They won’t get massive scholarship looks, because they’re both pretty short wideouts, but there’s some potential there for sure.
Central’s new gunslinger looks good
It’s a surprise to see San Angelo Central all the way out here, and the Angry Orange did not disappoint. Their pool play game against Cedar Park was so close that it was inarguably a personal highlight. They don’t look as fine tuned as last year, but it’s just 7 on 7, and Maverick McIvor is still just a junior. Central was a huge sleeper pick last year, and I think they creep into that spot again.
Another side note about San Angelo Central – remember the name Jesse Scott Jr.
Small time? No big deal
Again, it’s just 7 on 7, but it’s still a little jarring to see a semifinal round in Austin without Austin Westlake or Lake Travis, who both fell in pool play. It was a crazy day with a lot of close scores all around, and both teams will more than likely be more than fine once it’s time to actually strap up pads. It’s still jarring, and there are some personnel issues with both teams that won’t get resolved until the season starts. So, essentially, for some teams, 7 on 7 performances mean a lot, and for some, they mean nothing. Welcome to this strange and borderline perverse version of football without the outright violence that attracts all of us to this sport.
